The Landlord's Son

"Sei Fei Jai" a.k.a Fatty Boy has always been an eyesore to us since years back. Back then we dreaded the time he practices his piano, simply a nightmare. That bugger has no interest in learning how to play the piano correctly, and  hates the routine. Everyday without fail at about 6-7pm after dinner, his mom would force him to practice and for that period of 1 hour or so was our darkest hour.

A moment ago, the house went chaotic again. The mother lectured the kid on his poor grades. Seems that his grades deteriorated as he grows older, having no interest/lazy to study. If i'm not mistaken, next year he will be sitting for his SPM. Being the only child of the family, the mother would certainly never let go of him and hopes that he pull his act together and achieve something in life, after his poor track of record in UPSR, PMR.   It's really a sad thing. UPSR, PMR, is such a breeze, well in my point of view.

Many things that the mother told him really make sense. Studying diligently really helps. For a better future. But what I mean by better future is not necessarily the good grades but the test of will power to endure the challenges of boring homework and revision and sitting for the exam. I do not agree to the act of parents forcing their children to madly getting superbly fantastic result but more of the effort of doing the best and achieving a good result. Because with that values planted in the kid, then only they can succeed in the later part of their life, e.g the working world, the cruel real world.

Some parents like my landlord here does not really send the importance of studying to the son. They just force them to study, without knowing why. No reasoning. The kid is being nagged almost 24-7 to study up, forcing the kid to wake up extra early even during weekends, bla bla bla, totally killing off any form of studying mood what so ever. The end result - ? Rebel. Lazy. Do nothing good to the kid. Kids should be encouraged to learn, to be curious, to be independent, but not forced.
